Mandatory Programs

In addition to the voluntary social programs that Karoon has implemented since 2010, Karoon, in preparation for the commencement of operations, has been implementing the programs and commitments included in the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (EIA-S).

Here you can find more information about the programs that have been implemented in 2019 as mandatory mechanisms of the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) and also programs the implementation of which is planned for 2020.

Formalization and artisanal fisherman card

Management of the artisanal fisherman course for 160 fishermen, including the provision of the artisanal fisherman card;

Donations to local schools

Materials to help developing stimulation activities focused on psychomotor skills. They will benefit 1564 children who are 3 to 5 years of age from 12 local schools.

Work experience program

Training and local employment for 92 community members for the duration of the operation;

Christmas donation and celebrations of fisherman’s day

To support communities in the preparation of their holidays;

IMO International Maritime Course

IMO training for 50 fishermen

Community Relations Program (CRP)

Communication program

Implementation of 11 workshops, 4 weeks before the commencement of operations. In these workshops, Karoon will communicate general information about the project and the commencement of the operation;

Good practices program

It will be developed together with the suppliers in order to promote respect and a good relationship with the members of the communities.

Negotiation and agreement program

This program promotes dialogue and mitigates any incident with fishermen. It is directly related to any complaint or damage that may arise during the operation.

Monitoring and citizen surveillance programs

Participation of Karoon’s stakeholders in the operation as monitors in order to improve their understanding about the operation.
